Cold, and barely moving
Wool felts from heat plus friction. Cold water and a short, gentle cycle do most of the work.
Skip the softener
Fabric softener coats the fibre. On wool it reduces the thing you like about wool.
Dry flat
Hanging wet wool stretches it. Lay it flat, reshape it while damp, and leave it alone.
